Petzl left its Basic Ascender compact, light, and basically, well, basic for convenient versatility on big wall climbs. Use it on fixed lines or as a progress capture in hauling systems, knowing that the Basic's stainless steel, toothed cam will stay secure thanks to the self-cleaning slot. The lower attachment accommodates two carabiners to attach lanyards and foot loops, and can work as a chest ascender, a foot ascender, or a standard harness ascender. The Basic Ascender also has an upper connection hole for guiding ropes more efficiently, and its safety catch provides a good grip.
