Petzl designed the Stop Descender to make long, single-rope rappels easier and more comfortable, offering reliable on-rope control and ease of use. The self-braking function makes it convenient to stop and hold your position on the rope, simply by letting go of the handle. Once you do this, the internal cam pinches the rope and stops your descent, leaving you free to rest or check out your surroundings. When used in conjunction with an ascender and foot loop, you can also use the Stop to ascend short distances up the rope.
