"What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:""I used the hammer end of the Gully Hammer Ice Axe to knock in a piton on a rocky traverse mid-route, then went straight back to swinging ice without missing a beat. Having that hammer built in saved me from carrying a second tool for what turned out to be a fully mixed climb.""A true alpine line rarely stays one kind of terrain for long, and the Gully Hammer Ice Axe from Petzl is built for the moment rock interrupts ice. Picture a mixed route where a crumbling ledge forces a piton placement before the next pitch of névé, no time to dig through a pack for another tool, just one axe doing double duty. That versatility comes from a low-profile hammer paired with the same tapered re-curve pick that sticks clean on hard ice, so a single tool covers both jobs without adding real bulk. The TRIGREST handrest drops into climbing mode with no tools needed, and a grooved shaft holds your grip through the long reach of a mixed pitch. Even fully specced for rock and ice, it stays light enough to swing all day."
